After my graduation, I was searching for a job at a company that values sustainability, where I could take my skills in that area to the next level. At the same time, I was looking for an international working environment in which I could grow professionally as well as personally.
What I found in the traineeship at Broadview was exciting projects, an emphasis on personal development and a diverse international working environment with amazing people.
Exciting projects
During the traineeship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, gaining insights into a broad range of sustainability topics. This not only deepened my knowledge in the field, but also helped me identify the types of projects I am most passionate about.
My first rotation was focused on conducting life cycle assessments (LCAs) for two companies in the group. LCA is a fact-based tool revealing the environmental impact of products, and it is an important foundation for improving companies' sustainability performance.
In my second rotation I worked on the development of a tool to explore external innovation developments. In addition, I was supporting the circularity program Trespa Second Life. The program’s goal is to extend the life of Trespa HPL panels by giving them a second life in applications where they are fit-for-purpose.
Personal growth and working with senior management
During the traineeship, I also had close contact with senior management. Observing how they tackle problems and communicate insights has proven to be a valuable source of learning for me.
The training days were among my highlights. Throughout the traineeship, I attended recurring training days, together with other trainees from my batch. The sessions have been incredibly valuable. The trainers take a very personal approach and have truly helped me get to know myself and my strengths and weaknesses better. They also provide tools that I am now applying in my day-to-day work, helping me to plan and structure my projects better.
International team
I would describe the company culture as open-minded, honest and inspiring. I am surrounded by an amazing community with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. This diversity brings broad perspectives to the projects and stimulates rewarding discussions. I take a lot of inspiration from this for my work, and being surrounded by a supportive team motivates me to go the extra mile.
Current role
The traineeship experience reaffirmed my interest and passion for sustainability. After exploring opportunities with my manager, I got an offer to stay in the Sustainability Team as a full-time Sustainability Specialist. In this role, I am responsible for conducting LCAs and managing other sustainability-related tasks at Westag AG, while remaining actively involved in the Trespa Second Life project. The traineeship provided me with a strong foundation, equipping me with both technical expertise and essential soft skills. I am excited to continue growing in this role and contributing to meaningful sustainability efforts.
